Steep garden re-design and build in Grantham
Project Brief:
We were contacted by a couple in Grantham who needed some ideas on how to improve their garden to make it a space they could use and enjoy more.
The garden is on a significant slope, which created a few challenges for Stuart as a designer. As it was, their dogs were struggling to negotiate the steep steps and the seating area close to the house wasn’t getting much sun.
Elements of the Project:
- Design of complete back garden by Stuart
- Removal of a large amount of earth (by hand and in barrows!) to create three levels
- Replacement of part of the boundary fencing
- Installation of retaining walls using composite sleepers in higher areas and gabion baskets filled with washed cobbles at the bottom
- Construction of a curved stepped pathway from top to bottom to take out the steep gradient
- Installation of a porcelain patio at the rear of the house with a built-in Cedar bench
- Construction of a timber gazebo with power supply in the middle section
- Chrome blade water feature installed in the retaining wall next to the gazebo
- Turfing of an area in the middle section
- Construction of raised vegetable beds built into the top of the slope
- Planting plan for the whole garden
- Sourcing and planting of plants
